Sun's out, bun's out // PENANG

As we maneuver through life amidst Covid-19, trying to find our footing once again on what was once solid ground, has now become a brick-by-brick transition to what we now call 'the new normal'.

While I've been struggling with landing a job, keeping busy and making sure the home is in sheer harmony, I've been blessed with weekends full of escapades in the company of people I've grown very fond of. So, really, there's nothing much to complain about now, is there?

To add to that, the final week of July was spent on the infamous Penang island where miles and miles of white sandy beaches were lined with swaying palm trees and crystal clear waters. Although this time with a different set of people, Penang is still as beautiful as I last saw it, 9 donkey years ago.

Snippets from our weekend:

But of course the first stop we make in Penang is at a hawker stall for only the most authentic Penang food.

Fried oysters are always a must.

The shop houses that lined the roads in Penang all had similar interiors, just like the one above. They can be operating anything from a restaurant, a trinket shop or even a little shop that sells egg tarts, just like this one. Yum!

There's no way a trip to Penang is completed until you've made a pit-stop to have the famous Penang Road Teochew Cendol.

Lone Pine Hotel in Penang - apart from the little history lesson that was given to me about this place, I can only fathom just how it would've meant to someone who grew up playing on these green pastures as a kid and the memories that were made in it's vicinity.

After all that eating and drinking, a day at the beach was definitely much-needed. We spent hours soaking up the sun, immersing ourselves in salt water and on top of that, I even got to jet-ski for the first time (and got flung out into the ocean too, just for the heck of it!).

BEACH BUMS

Then to wrap it all up, a night out in town was an intimate birthday celebration for Ian - accompanied by a deconstructed Flaming Lamborghini and one too many glasses of Whiskey on the rocks.

A little latch in the door lead us to a secret passage-way which brought us to this gem of a place - a setting reminiscent of old Chinese houses, with timeless oil-paintings and an extensive bar area for one's poison of choice, any day. They also have a stage for live bands to perform but because of MCO, it was just us and couple of other patrons, making all the noise for the night.

Peace out! Till' next time, Penang.

With love, Krissy xx
